The collective which has created OS an Unix, has developed the concept of unification of objects of OS, having included in initial concept UNIX «the device is too a file» as well processes, and any other system, network and applied services, having created the new concept: «everything is a file». New has received name Plan9 (the name has been borrowed from a fantastic thriller «the Plan 9 of a free space» Edward Wood-younger), and has replaced «a working horsy» UNIX System V on computers of network Bell Labs in 1992.
Except realisation of all objects of OS in the form of files and their placing on uniform and personal for each terminal of the computer network space (namespace), other architectural decisions UNIX have been reconsidered. For example, in Plan9 there is no concept “superuser”, and any infringements of a mode the safety connected with illegal reception of the rights of the superuser in system, accordingly, are excluded. For representation (storage, an exchange) information Rob Pajk and Ken Thompson have developed universal coding UTF-8, for today become by the standard de facto. For access to files the uniform universal report 9P, on a network working over the network report (TCP or UDP) is used. Thus for applied ON a network does not exist – access to local and to remote files it is uniform. 9P – the byte-oriented report, unlike other similar reports which are block-type. It also result of work of the concept: Access – to the unified files, instead of – to various and strongly changing with development of technologies to devices. For the access control to objects it is not required other decisions, except control of accesses already existing in OS to files. The new concept of system of storage has relieved the manager of system of wearisome work on support of archives and has anticipated modern control systems of versions of files.
OS created on base or ideas UNIX, such as all family BSD and GNU/Linux systems, gradually adopt new ideas from Bell Labs. Probably in the future these new ideas, the big future and a recognition of IT Developers waits.
